His funeral service will be held Saturday, November 2, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel in Arlington Heights at 11 am. A viewing will be held in the same building from 10-11 am. internment will take place at Arlington Cemetery following the funeral.
Jared was born May 31, 1921 in Kane, Wyoming to Edna Seviah Despain and William Henry Dickson. A true American patriot, Jared served his country during World War II in the navy and is a Pearl Harbor survivor. He married his high school sweetheart, Elna Lewis, after the war and they raised 4 daughters and 2 sons. Jared was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all his life. He also owned a successful construction company and dedicated his life to helping other people. When Elna died, he married Marie Spletter whom he loved for 15 years before she died. Later, Jared married Mary Shurtleff who died in 2015. Jared had a great love for fishing and gardening.Jared is survived by his children: Kathy Dickson Johnson, Linda Dickson Jones, Robert Lewis Dickson, Dennis Lee Dickson, Ellen Dickson Slovacek, and Kristine Dickson Tate. Jared has 29 grandchildren, 83 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. His kind and gentle spirit and keen sense of humor will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
