George was born May 1, 1936 in Silt, CO to Owen and Margaret Boulton, in their home on a large cattle ranch. It was there that he learned and developed a vigorous work ethic, which positively impacted his career and countless endeavors. Most importantly, George’s deep and lasting faith in God, as well as his devotion to his family, sustained and strengthened him throughout his life.
George began his career as a florist upon graduating from Colorado State University in 1958. For ten years, he was employed by Swanson’s Land of Flowers in Seattle, before purchasing his own flower shop (Flowers by George) in Arlington in 1968.
In the ensuing years, George took immense pride in the Arlington community, and was acutely involved in nearly every facet of its life. He served in multiple capacities for the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club of Arlington, and a number of advisory committees for the City of Arlington. George was a charter member of Arlington Dollars for Scholars, as well as the former Arlington Business and Community Development Organization. He was a leader in various professional floral industry associations, which included serving 13 years as Executive Secretary for the Northwest Florists’ Association.
George was an active member of the Arlington United Church, having served the church in every leadership position, most recently as co-director of the Finance Committee.
During his retirement years, George served as Lt. Governor for the Pacific Northwest Kiwanis District. He was a dedicated Kiwanian, and as such was active in many local projects that benefitted the children of Arlington and the world. He was also awarded several of the highest honors for Kiwanis Club members.
George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Annalee Boulton; sons, Kenneth Boulton (wife, JoAnne Barry) and David Boulton (wife, Stacy Boulton); grandchildren, Colby Boulton (wife, Svitlana Boulton) and Chelsea Boulton; brother, Robert Boulton of Longmont, CO; sister, Marian Wooding of Hackettstown, NJ; sister-in-law, Verley Boulton of Fort Collins, CO; and many other relatives and friends. George was the fourth child in a loving family of Boultons and is preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Margaret Boulton; brother, Weston Boulton; brother-in-law, William Wooding; and sister-in-law, Esther Boulton.
Members of George’s family are deeply appreciative of the compassionate and expert care given to him by Dr. Kiarash Kojouri and his staff, as well as the entire nursing staff in the emergency room and orthopedic surgery divisions at Skagit Valley Hospital.
Viewings are scheduled at Weller Funeral Home (327 N. MacLeod Ave.) for Wednesday, March 21 (9:00am-5:00pm) and Thursday, March 22 (9:00am-2:30pm). George will be buried at Arlington Cemetery, with a Celebration of Life service planned for Sunday, April 8 at the Linda M. Byrnes Performing Arts Center (Arlington High School) at 6:00pm. A reception will be held in the high school commons following the service. Flowers for this service are welcome; however, donations are also appreciated, and may be made to Arlington Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Box 43, Arlington, WA 98223 in George’s memory.
