William A. Willis, Jr. (Bill), age 84, passed away on March 30, 2015, in Arlington, Virginia, after a long illness. He is survived by Judy, his wife of 48 years, daughter Beth, son Paul, granddaughter Ariana, and many relatives and friends.
He was born on July 20, 1930 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He served in the Air Force from 1950-1954 and then entered the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating in 1958 with a BS in Industrial Relations. He received a Master's Degree in Public Administration in 1978 from the University of Southern California.
Bill had a career with the United States government, serving as a Budget or Grants Officer with the Departments of Labor (Officer of the Solicitor), HEW (Division of Accident Prevention), and Commerce (Economic Development Administration). He retired in 1995 and continued his federal connections as an active member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE). He served as President of the Ski Club of Washington, DC from 1967-68. Up until his death he was an active Mason (Past Master of Potomac Lodge #5) and Shriner, and participated in many church activities, including Meals on Wheels.
Friends and relatives are invited to a Memorial Gathering from 6-8pm, with a Masonic service at 6:30 pm at the Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, on Thursday, April 16. A funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 4250 North Glebe Road, Arlington, VA 22207, at 11 am on Saturday, April 18. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Peter's Memorial Garden Fund, or the Arts and Sciences Annual Fund at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC 27514-9862
