Valerie Chokola

On Sunday, June 30, 2013, Valerie Chokola (82) of Arlington, VA was called home to eternal rest after a valiant fight with cancer. Valerie was born on July 28, 1930 in Wilkes-Barre, PA where she spent the majority of her younger years. She was daughter of the late Katherine and Simon Chokola. Valerie proudly attained her B.S from Misericordia University and later went on to achieve her Master of Science degree in Nutrition from the University of Maryland. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph Chokola (Dolores) and Peter Chokola (Wanda), and her niece Karen Chokola. She is survived by her nieces and nephews Catherine Nenart (Ronald), Jan Schmidt (Jack), Peter Chokola, and Glenn Chokola (Emily). She is also survived by her five grandnieces and nephews, Daniel Nenart, Daniel Chokola, Brian Chokola, Elise Chokola, and Maureen Chokola. Valerie's gregarious and caring nature will be missed by all. A mass will be held at St. Thomas More Cathedral, 3901 N Cathedral Ln, Arlington, VA on Friday, July 5th at 10:30 a.m. Interment will occur at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1594 S. Maine St. Wilkes-Barre, PA at 12:30 p.m. The family would like to thank Robin White and Dorcas Lushetsky from Capital Caring and her private nurses: Aminata Ngobeh, Adame Ngobeh, Zainab Mumu, and Aminata Bah who lovingly cared for her. Also, special thanks to all of her friends who stood by her through this tough time.
