Marcia was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on November 16, 1935. She attended Weymouth High School and Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, from which she graduated in 1957. She earned her doctorate from Duke University in 1962. Her thesis was entitled Three Spanish Economists of the Enlightenment: Campomanes, Jovellanos, and Flores Estrada. It explored their ideas during the period when economics was emerging as a separate field of study.
Marcia was married for 52 years to Thomas F. Field, who survives her. She is also survived by her two children, Jonathan D. Field and Emily A. McClellan; and four grandchildren, Samantha B. Cake, Zachary Cake, Wyatt McClellan, and Lauren McClellan.
She was predeceased by her parents, James Davidson and Doris (Long) Davidson of Milton, Massachusetts. Marcia takes her middle name, Dell, from her maternal grandmother, Fannie Mae Dell, who was married to her maternal grandfather, Ted Long.
Marcia worked for more than 30 years for the U.S. Treasury Department as an International Tax Economist, negotiating tax treaties with many foreign countries. After retiring from the Treasury, she did volunteer work for several charities in Arlington, Virginia.
Marcia has been cremated and her ashes will be scattered at her farm in West Virginia. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in Arlington at a later date.
Her family and friends miss her greatly.
