Karen Sue McCoy, 60, of Arlington, VA, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2022 from complications of cancer. Karen’s smile and loving nature enriched every life she touched. Her family will forever miss their beloved KS. Karen was born in Washington, DC to Mary Ann and Gene McCoy and lived in Arlington VA her entire life. She graduated from James Madison University with a B.S. in Hotel, Motel and Restaurant Management. Her career started as an account executive at Atlantic Foods. In 1996 she pivoted to real estate financing, where she worked for 25 years, first as senior loan officer at Preferred Mortgage (now PHH Home Loans), and eventually VP Mortgage Lending at Guaranteed Rate Affinity. For the past several years, she has been devoting endless time, energy and heart into helping dogs in need through the Somerset Cottage Poodle Rescue, the organization that connected her with her beloved Poochon Sophie . Karen is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Ross. She is survived by her brother Drew (Amy Aquino), sisters Jean Phillips (Pete), Jane Cherney, and Rachel and sister-in-law Daniella, as well as nephews Alan, Nicholas, Anthony, Colt, and Dylan, along with great-niece Ava and her brother Zeke. Karen will also be forever remembered by her numerous cousins, extended family and dear friends and neighbors. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial for Karen at St. Agnes Church (Arlington VA) on Friday, February 18th at 11AM and burial at Columbia Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Triangle, Inc., serving persons with developmental disabilities, in honor of her nephew Anthony Cherney; or Somerset Cottage Poodle Rescue, which rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes dogs in need.
