With hearts bowed in reverence and eyes lifted to the heavens, we lovingly commemorate the life of Ernestina Ofelia Torres-Erazo, who was called to her eternal rest on July 11, 2024, in Arlington, Virginia. Born on March 5, 1935, in the verdant valleys of Riobamba, Ecuador, Ernestina embarked on a journey of faith that spanned 89 years, a pilgrimage marked by the virtues of humility, gratitude, and an unwavering respect for the majesty of all creation. Ernestina's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of modesty and service. Her dedication to the custodial arts was a reflection of her belief in the dignity of labor and her commitment to stewardship over the environments entrusted to her care. A steadfast parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Ernestina's devotion was the bedrock of her existence, her every action a silent hymn of praise to the Creator. In the quiet sanctuary of her heart, Ernestina harbored a profound love for her family, caring for her brothers, Victor Hugo Torres Sr. and Julio Cesar Torres, with a gentleness that echoed the benevolence of the Divine. Her life was a living psalm, a melody of contentment for the simple blessings—her joyful embrace of dance, her meditative practice of knitting, and the love-infused meals she prepared, each a sacrament of her affection. Ernestina was a cherished disciple of her grandmother, Rosa Ortiz-Erazo, whose wisdom and spirituality nurtured the seeds of faith that flourished throughout her life. She now joins the celestial chorus with those who have gone before her: her parents, Delia Maria Erazo and Jose Julio Torres, and her siblings, Victor Torres Sr. and Marco Torres. We are comforted by the knowledge that Ernestina's spirit has been lifted up on the wings of angels and enfolded in the embrace of the Almighty. Her legacy endures in the hearts of her sisters, Gloria Delgado and Elsa Torres; her brothers, Julio Cesar Torres and Marcelo Chavez; her brother-in-law, Jose Delgado Sr.; and her beloved nephews and niece, James Deans, Patricia Delgado, and Jose Delgado Jr. The sacred rites to honor Ernestina's passage into the arms of our Lord will be held at Murphy Funeral Home, Arlington, Virginia, on the 29th of July, 2024. Her mortal remains will be tenderly laid to rest amid the divine tapestry of Columbia Gardens Cemetery. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Murphy Funeral Home for their compassionate assistance. As we bid farewell to Ernestina, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the blessing of her presence among us. We celebrate a soul of such radiant kindness and honor her memory by emulating her reverence for life in all its forms. May her journey be blessed with peace, and may light perpetual shine upon her. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we entrust Ernestina Ofelia Torres-Erazo to everlasting glory. Amen.
