Danny Thomas Mason, beloved husband of Mark Ciaverella, passed away on March 8, 2022, losing his short fight with cancer. He was born in Richmond Virginia on August 11, 1955. Dan was predeceased by father and mother, Ralph and Pearl, his brother Ralph and his wonderful Westie, Rummy. He is survived by husband Mark and his family, cousin Charlotte Ramsey, who raised Dan for several years, his "almost" sister, Patsy Stevens, and the many friends that he made over the years as a hair stylist.
He was the owner of Maison Hair Design in Alexandria, Virginia until 2017. While working in Alexandria, Dan developed lasting relationships with his clients, considering his wide circle of friends and colleagues as an extension of his family and cherishing each and every one. He was just that kind of person; open caring, loving, and true. Dan never shied away from saying “I love you”. He owned Maison Hair Design in Alexandria, VA until 2017, after which he worked with Mark at Salon Mark Anthony in McLean, VA. Dan loved people and they loved him back fiercely. His salon in Alexandria became a meeting place for many of his client friends for wine and cheese and wonderful conversation.
Dan moved to Northern Virginia in the late 70's, and maintained a weekend home in Schellsburg, PA. There, he, and Mark maintained a beautiful collection of art, pottery, and antiques. Dan was a gardener extraordinaire and his garden in Schellsburg was showcase for an enormous variety of fragrant and colorful plants. Dan and Mark often opened their house for the many friends and family in the area. He loved to visit antique stores and flea markets, looking for more beautiful items to add to his collection. Dan also enjoyed travelling and spent time every year at Nags Head, NC doing puzzles and communing with extended family.
There will be a Funeral Mass on March 28th at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 2700 South 19th Street, Arlington, Virginia 11:00am, followed by a Celebration of Dan’s life at J. Gilbert’s, 6930 Old Dominion Drive, McLean, Virginia. There will also be a Celebration of Life in Pennsylvania prior to his being inurned in Altoona, with Rummy, next to Mark's parents, Leonard and Janet Ciaverella.
