On Sunday, September 4, Albert “Frenchy” Lesperance, passed away at the age of 96. Born to Albert Francis L’Esperance and Mary Durr, on April 10, 1926. He graduated from Columbia University and joined the Navy in 1944. He rose to the rank of Captain, while serving as a naval aviator and completing multiple at sea tours.
In 1951, he married Mary Deignan, a Navy Nurse, who passed away in 2014. They had twins, Anne & Rita. In his retirement, he settled in Arlington, VA to be close to his daughter, Rita and two granddaughters, Melissa & Erin. He was very involved in his granddaughters’ lives taking them fishing, summer trips to Lake Anna, sleepovers, sharing his love for desserts (especially ice cream), sewing, and wood working in his garage. Frenchy was also well known for his love of music and he shared this love with everyone around him, especially his family. He played no less than 9 instruments and would even play the organ at church on occasion. Many family gatherings and holidays involved singing along while he played the piano. He was also a devout Catholic and was very involved in Saint Agnes Parish and the Legion of Mary.
Frenchy is survived by his daughter Rita, son-in-law Patrick, two granddaughters Melissa & Erin, and three great-granddaughters, Atley, Ellerie, and Addison.
The funeral will be held at St. Agnes Church on Wednesday, September 14, at 10am (1910 N Randolph St, Arlington, VA 22207) followed by the burial at Columbia Gardens Cemetery (3411 Arlington Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201).
