Tammy A. Smaw, age 54, gracefully transitioned on July 12, 2024, in Dallas, Texas. Born on October 24, 1969, in Dover, Delaware, Tammy was the beloved daughter of Robert and Phyllis Baines. Raised in the serene beauty of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Tammy pursued her passion for nursing, earning a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix in 2016. Her dedication to service was evident in her seven years as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman, where she cared for others with unwavering compassion.
On September 24, 2014, Tammy married Horace Smaw, and together they nurtured a beautifully blended family of seven children. Her professional journey led her to UT Southwestern Medical Center, where she excelled as a registered nurse in labor and delivery for over seven years, bringing new life into the world with a tender touch.
Tammy's life was a testament to love and devotion. In her spare time, she found joy in reading her Bible and creating culinary delights. She cherished movie nights, bowling, and game nights, and her heart sang during family holiday gatherings. To her loved ones, Tammy was a woman of valor, a devoted mother, a loyal wife, a loving grandmother, the epitome of professionalism, and a steadfast friend. Her strength of will and deep faith made her love personified.
Preceded in death by her grandparents Seth and Louise Giddens, and William and Ella Baines, Tammy leaves behind a legacy of love. She is survived by her adoring husband Horace Smaw, her cherished children Devontai Owens (Darcella Owens), Sean Owens (Demeisha Owens), Tabitha Smaw, Witney Clay, Brandon Smaw, Bryan Clay, and Brandon Clay, and her treasured grandchildren Ian, Kylie, Kenzie, Xion, Walker, Nova, Kendall, and Jaxson, her loving parents Robert and Phyllis Baines, and her brother Tariq Baines. Her memory will also be held dear by her aunts, uncles, a host of relatives, and countless friends.
Tammy A. Smaw will forever be remembered as a beacon of light and love, her spirit an enduring blessing to all who knew her.
