Robert L. Taylor (Bob), a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the Carlyle at Stonebridge Park, Southlake, TX, where he had received care for several years.
Bob celebrated his 90th birthday earlier this year with family and friends having been born on March 13, 1934, in Carthage, Missouri. His parents moved him to Aurora, Illinois, as an infant. After graduating from West Aurora High School in 1953, he attended Bradley University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. Following college, Bob proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1957 to 1963.
For the past four decades he was a proud Texan having moved to Arlington, Texas, in 1983. He soon traded in the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings to root for the Dallas Cowboys. He was also an avid golfer and played well into his 80s.
Bob was always a ‘salesman,’ employed by Lyon Metal Products in Aurora, Illinois, for 25 years. Twelve of those years were as a Sales Representative with territories in Cincinnati, Kansas City, Seattle, and Dallas, followed thirteen years serving as District Manager in Minneapolis. Upon leaving Lyon Metal Products, he owned and operated Taylor Specialties Company until his retirement.
He was a proud member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, the Masonic Lodge & Scottish Rite in Minnesota, and Moslah Shrine Temple, Fort Worth. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Arlington.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Taylor, his parents, Harold J. Taylor and Pearl L. Taylor, and a brother, Richard H. Taylor.
Two children survive him, Diane L. Sowokinos, Cambridge, Minnesota, and Robert S. Taylor, of Arlington. Bob’s memory will be cherished by his grandchildren, Blake Sowokinos, Matt Sowokinos, Megan Sowokinos Doyle (Nick), Scott Taylor (Jubilee), and William Taylor. Bob’s only great-grandson, Lewis, born in 2022, brought him immense joy. Two brothers survive Bob: Donald R. Taylor, Leesburg, FL, and Rep. Bill Taylor (Donna), Aiken, SC.
The Taylor family wants to thank the many people who cared for Bob in recent years, especially his daughter, Diane, who was his advocate and advisor during his illness. A special thanks to Jenny Byrom who was always there befriending Bob.
Graveside Services for Robert L. Taylor (Bob) will be held at Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington, Texas, on November 1, 2024. This is for family and friends.
