Michael Ray Henderson, age 72 of Arlington, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2021 with his family at his side. Michael was born on May 12, 1949 in Gainesville, Texas, the son of Colquitt H. “Tommy” Henderson and Yvonne Marie Gregory Henderson. He grew up in the same home with his brother, Tommy Gregory Henderson, and was surrounded by childhood friends and extended family members until his graduation from the Gainesville High School in 1967. He attended the Tabernacle Baptist Church throughout these 18 years and often credited the minister Rev. Jerry McBride for helping establish his deep faith in the Lord.
After graduation, Michael volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1969. He was a member of the Army Security Agency and his first tour of duty was in Vietnam. While he was there, his son David was born. Michael served at various U.S. bases and he and his family were also stationed in Germany for a year. Michael was honorably discharged in 1972.
As a civilian, Michael worked in various professions, but eventually found his calling as an over-the-road truck driver. His two other children, Jacob Henderson and Kristal Henderson, were born during this time. His last 20 plus years were spent at Frito Lay until his retirement in 2012.
Michael married Susan Clark Hughes on January 1, 2001 and they celebrated nearly 21 years of marriage together before his passing. Susan’s children and grandchildren grew to love and respect him during these years and miss him greatly.
Michael is survived by his wife, Susan; children, David Henderson, Jacob Henderson, and Kristal Henderson (Joe Hofmann); step-children, Wade Stalcup (Vikki) and Amy Stalcup; grandchildren Garrett Johnson (Jazmin), Logan Henderson (Taylor), Cassidy Henderson, Holly Henderson Meeks (Daniel), Joshua Henderson, Corwynne Gardner, Shawn Stalcup and Rebecca Robinson Stalcup. His legacy also includes three great-grandsons, Deklan, Malakai, and David. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tommy Henderson.
A memorial for Michael will be held at the Vineyard Church in Arlington, Sat., Jan. 1st, 2022, from
2 – 4 PM. The church is located at 1301 W. Abram St. in Arlington. He will be buried at the U.S. National Cemetery in Dallas on Jan. 4th, 2022, at 1:30 PM. He was very grateful that he had served his country in the US Army and his wish was to be buried among comrades. The memorial and service are open to all who wish to attend.
Michael was a well-loved man. He will be missed.
