Bonnie was born Virginia Lavonne Reneau on 30 May, 1934 southwest of Manchester in Grant County, Oklahoma. Her parents were Samuel Craig Reneau and Velma Nelson Reneau.
Growing up on the farm in a large family with brothers Ellis, Joseph, Merlin, Philip, Winston, Paul, Steve and sister Elaine, she learned her values, faith, dedication to hard work and sense of humor from her family. Bonnie was an avid reader and a gifted student. She attended one-room schools at Pleasant Valley, southwest of Manchester and Cherryvale, west of Clyde and graduated as the salutatorian of Medford High School, class of 1952. She attended Enid Business College and took her first job with the George E Failing Company in Enid following her early graduation. She moved to Dallas, Texas with her sister Elaine to broaden her horizons and join the business community there.
Bonnie married Ben Simmons in Durant, Oklahoma in 1958 and they raised two children - Jennifer Simmons Kuzbary and Robert Simmons in Dallas, Texas. She had a successful career in the defense sector (Bell Helicopter and LTV Inc.) and eventually became the executive secretary to the CEO of Hunt Oil Company and served with distinction on the Texas State Bar Grievance Committee.
Following Ben’s passing in 1978, she continued her busy career and eventually married Oscar Cox, Jr. of Bridgeport, TX in 1985. Oscar and Bonnie spent their retirement together going on adventures around the world, enjoying the company of their dogs, and dividing their time between their homes in North Dallas and South Padre Island, Texas. Following Oscar’s passing in 2013, Bonnie moved to Tyler, Texas and eventually Enid, Oklahoma where she maintained her strong bonds with her close-knit family.
Throughout her life, Bonnie was always active and maintained excellent health until her short battle with cancer in 2022 followed by her peaceful passing among the love and care of family members.
Bonnie lived her long and fulfilling life centered on her strong Christian faith, devotion to service, and love for family. She instantly made friends wherever she went and demonstrated a true servant heart to family and friends alike. As such, she was loved by many and will be fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to be in her life.
Bonnie is survived by her brothers Joseph, Merlin, Paul, and Steve; her children Jennifer and Robert; her grandchildren Patrick and Miriam and numerous nephews and nieces.
