Joan was born Joan Pelphrey to Joseph Earl Pelphrey and Nanny Dutton Pelphrey on May 23, 1935, in Plainview, Texas. She married Thomas Howard Simpson. Jr. on June 2, 1951 in Plainview. They moved to the Fort Worth area in 1968. She was a loving wife of 50 years, mother, grandmother and great grandmother known to everyone as "Memom" and she will be missed by all.
She was one of the original drivers for Handi Tran when the City of Arlington started the transit services. She was trained in CPR, and minor emergency assistance to help until EMT's arrived. She loved working with the elderly and handicapped and had a special gift for serving both. She retired from Handi Tran in 1993.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, HP Pelphrey, sister Johnnie Mae Baker.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Irby of Arlington, son, Tom Simpson and wife, Mary of Mansfield.
Five grandchildren, David Brent Colmer of Rockport, Texas, Tisha Brown and husband Todd of Haymarket Virginia, Dava Garza and husband Jesse of Midlothian, Texas, Holly Berry and husband JT of Midlothian, Texas and Hadley Simpson of Mansfield.
Joan had nine great grandchildren, Sean Garza and wife Logan of Venus, Texas, Alex Garza and fiance Rachel Huther of Mansfield, Texas, Jessica Breaud and husband Ryan of Frisco, Texas, Peyton Brown of Haymarket, Virginia, Dylan Brown of Haymarket, Virginia, Cheyenne Colmer of North Richland Hills, Texas, twins Hunter Garza and Michael Garza of Midlothian, Texas and Nicole Colmer of Rockport, Texas. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.
