Inez Mary Meech Bishop, 86, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 12th, 2018 in Arlington, Texas with family by her side. Inez was born August 27, 1931 in North Sydney, Nova Scotia to Dr. and Mrs. Lloyd Meech. She was very proud to be a Meech, her father having been a Purple Cross recipient for his heroism on the front lines during WWI and her two brothers, Lloyd and Billy, having given their lives in service of their country during WWII. In 1970, Inez’s mother, Mary Meech, received the Silver Cross from Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau for her family’s sacrifice. Inez was the last surviving of her 11 siblings.
Inez was educated in Nova Scotia including graduation from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She graduated from “The Mount” in 1953, and shortly thereafter married William “Bill” Bishop. Their life together, spanning 55 years, took them around the world from London, to Montreal, to Boston, and San Diego, ultimately settling in Arlington, Texas with their four children Lloyd, Ian, Mary Margaret and Donald. She was very active in her children’s schools, while also pursuing her personal interests of reading, cooking, traveling and entertaining. After insuring her family was settled in Texas, she pursued and received a Masters Degree and resumed her career in education. This was a period in her life that gave her great happiness and fulfillment and through which she made many lasting friendships.
The next phase of Inez’s life brought what was arguably her greatest joy-becoming “Grammy” to nine adoring grandchildren: Elizabeth, Campbell, Andrew, Shawn, Mary Catherine, Isabella, Brent, Frances and Sophie. These were years spent together on sports sidelines, beaches, at school events, piano recitals, holiday celebrations, graduations, and world travel--the perfect opportunity for Grammy to share her curiosity and love of learning with her children and grandchildren.
Inez was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and is survived by her four children, their spouses, nine grandchildren, much-loved nieces and nephews, and many treasured friends.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 16th at 2:00 PM at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2100 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas 76012 with a celebration of her life to follow at a private residence.
