Hoang Trong Le passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at the age of 90.
Le Trong Hoang was born on October 10, 1932 in Ha Nam, Vietnam to Le Trong Khai and Tran Thi Ly. He came from a working-class family and suffered early hardships as a young man, such as the tragic loss of his father and brother to the violence of a war-torn country. He was left to be “the man of the family” for his mother and two older sisters. Even at a young age, he was duty-bound and never shied away from responsibility. He was ambitious, hardworking, and determined to succeed in all his endeavors. He was a bright student, fluent in both Vietnamese and French, he often served as a tutor during his school years. Hoang eventually studied law and became a well-respected lawyer and judge, with the official title of Judge Advocate for the Saigon Military Court. He befriended and married Nguyen Ngoc Yen, with whom he proudly had eight children.
With the the fall of South Vietnam to the North Vietnamese communist regime in April of 1975, his life was, again, in upheaval. With known anti-communist beliefs, he was forced to flee his home country on a cargo ship with his elderly mother, wife, and eight children, never to return. He safely arrived on American soil with his family, the clothes on his back, and a few dollars of Vietnamese and American currency. Hoang and his family were sponsored by the First Christian Church of Ada, Oklahoma, where he began to build his new life. To provide for his family, he first worked at a General Tire factory in Ada for a short time. He went on to work full-time as a legal aide for the Department of Human Services in Ada, while struggling to learn a new language and put himself and his children through school. After attending night classes, he graduated Cum Laude from East Central University in Ada with an accounting degree and in 1990, passed the difficult Certified Public Accountant exam. For a few years he remained in Ada to work for Horne & Company PC before moving his family to Arlington, Texas, where he began working for the Internal Revenue Service in Dallas, to which he dedicated the remainder of his career until his retirement in 2015 as Senior Revenue Agent, Employee Plans Specialist.
Hoang’s wife, Yen, passed away from cancer in 1992-- yet another event that had a significant impact on him and his family. He eventually settled with his family in Irving, Texas in 1993. Hoang reconnected with a dear friend from his past in 1997. Over twenty years after their first meeting when he arrived in this country, he married Suzanne Kae Ball of Ada, Oklahoma, who had been one of the members of the First Christian Church who had provided years of charitable aid to him and his family. They remained happily married for over 24 years until the end of his life.
He is survived by a large family--his wife, Suzanne Le and her nieces, Lindsey Ball and Morgan Ball of Chicago, Illinois, and their mother, Delane Ball Derr of Houston, Texas, Suzanne’s sister-in-law; his sisters’ children and grandchildren; his 10 children (2 of whom he adopted, one his niece and the other, his eldest granddaughter) and their spouses; 16 grandchildren and 4 of their spouses; and 11 great grandchildren.

Hoang Trong Le had many roles—son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend—and he was exceptional at every single one. He worked tirelessly to help his family and loved ones, fulfilling his destiny of being the ultimate patriarch. He was a proud man, but a humble Christian. He was able to harness incredible strength and perseverance from his unwavering appreciation of God’s blessings unto him. He had eternal gratitude for all of those who extended their kindness towards him and his family. He was respected by all who knew him. Hoang never wasted a moment of his 90 years of life.
