Hansel Kay Herbert, 95, resident of The Masonic Retirement Center, Arlington, Texas, passed away March 3, 2017. Kay graduated from SMU in 1952 and retired from the US Navy as a Lieutenant Commander after serving in WW II as a Navy pilot.
Kay served as both a member of the Masonic Order and Shrine Temple.
As an accomplished drummer, Kay had a lifelong love for jazz and big band music.
Survivors: Children, Brandy Herbert, Judy Nunnenkamp, Steve Roederer and wife, Jamie, Brian Cobb and wife, Amelia, Kelly Cobb Beakey and husband, Clint; Grandchildren, Jeffrey Kay Herbert, Chris Nunnenkamp and wife, Alisha, Jason Nunnenkamp, Mike Nunnenkamp and wife, Jodie, Jordan Roederer, Stacey Cook and husband, Chris, Traci Furness and husband, Ed, Todd Roederer, Emily Beakey, Katie Beakey; 8 Great-grandchildren. Also survived by one sister, Pat Counts and family; nephew, Dwight Roan and wife Linda and family.
Kay was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Mae Herbert and his sister, Ruth Roan.
Visitation will be from 6-8:00 pm, Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Moore Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, March 9, 2017 also at the funeral home with Chris Nunnenkamp officiating.
Interment will follow at Moore Memorial Gardens.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Scottish Rite Hospital Dallas.
