George Sierra

George Sierra, age 91 of Tyler, passed away on February 4, 2018 under the care of Hospice of East Texas. He was born on December 16, 1926 in New York, NY, the son of George Sierra and Edelmira Hidalgo Sierra. George married his wife Janet during his time serving in the US Army in Fort Knox, KY, sadly she preceded him in death.

George proudly served in the US Navy during World War II and later retired from the US Army, in which he served during the Korean War. George retired as a Chief Warrant Officer and specialized as an electronics engineer. In his spare time, George enjoyed traveling, spending time outdoors, camping, photography, and reading. Family was George's greatest pride and joy, and he would do anything to ensure they were taken care of.

George is survived by his children George Harold Sierra and wife Silvia, David Sierra and wife Irene, Anita Wheeler and husband Barry, and Susan Matherne and husband Ricky; four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 12:00pm on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home, Arlington. Inurnment will follow at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
