Dorothy Ellis Harmond Gibson of Arlington, age 95, passed away on August 26, 2019. She was born March 29th, 1924 in Trinidad, Colorado. Her family moved to Price, Utah to follow the mining boom. Dorothy went to Catholic elementary school for ten years, then public high school where she graduated in 1942. She met her husband Jim Gibson while working at a friend's grocery store. They married in Las Vegas on July 31,1952
Jim's career in the oil field took them to Texas then to Grand Junction, Colorado. His company then transferred him to Tripoli, Libya in 1962 where they lived until 1979. It was difficult for Dorothy to be so far from her family and Jim's job kept him out in the field for long periods of time. However, Dorothy's vivacious personality and positive attitude endeared her to many while overseas. Her friends there became her family celebrating holidays and events together. She kept up with many of her overseas friends throughout the years.
After Jim had a heart attack in 1979, they moved to Arlington to be near family. Dorothy devoted most of her time to his care and also caring for her mother who lived in their home.
Never complaining, she had a servant's heart putting other's needs before her own. "A life of serving is a life well lived."
After Jim's death in 1984, she lived life to the fullest enjoying her friends, her beloved church, Most Blessed Sacrament, volunteering at Arlington Memorial Hospital and being a member of the Arlington Italian Club. Dorothy was able to live in her home until she was 92 thanks to the love and support of her neighbors and dear friends who daily checked on her. We will forever be grateful for them.
Dorothy's legacy is one of love, giving and caring. She made everyone feel special; encouraging
all who knew her. We will miss her sense of humor and love of life which endeared her to many.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Gibson and son, Steve Gibson.
She is survived by her children Mike Gibson (Melinda) of Keller and Eva Kane (Jerry) of Montgomery; her grandchildren Trey Gibson (Laura), and Dorothy Nelson(Trevor); great-grandchildren Jaden Fabiani, Emma Rose Gibson, Liam Gibson, and Luke Nelson; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews residing in Utah.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 2100 N. Davis Dr., Arlington, TX 76012 on Monday, September 9, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Cecilia's Women's Guild at Most Blessed Sacrament, Arlington, TX.
A life well lived is a precious gift
Of hope and strength and grace,
From someone who has made our world
A brighter, better place
It’s filled with moments, sweet and sad
With smiles and sometimes tears,
With friendships formed and good times shared
And laughter through the years.
A life well lived is a legacy
Of joy and pride and pleasure,
A living, lasting memory
Our grateful hearts will treasure
