Charles S. (Chuck) Gaede, a dedicated veteran and educator, passed away on December 3, 2024. He was 80 years old. He was born in Olney, Illinois on April 25, 1944 to Emil and Marie Gaede. Chuck grew up on a farm in Edwards County near West Salem, Illinois. He graduated from Edwards County High School in Albion with the class of 1962. Chuck served in the Marine Corps for over 29 years, where he was wounded twice during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Marine Corps Reserve with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in April 1998. After serving in Vietnam, Chuck continued his education and began his teaching career in Waxahachie, Texas. He later worked for the Irving Independent School District and the University of Texas at Arlington. In 1998, Doctor Charles Gaede joined the University of Texas at Austin, where he worked in the Measurement and Evaluation Center until his retirement in 2007.
Chuck was also deeply committed to giving back to his community and was actively involved in several veterans' organizations. He played a significant role in charitable work related to Vietnam, including building libraries for children with the Peace Trees Vietnam organization. In 1995, he began organizing reunions for his fellow Vietnam veterans of 3rd Platoon, Company H, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines.
In his free time, Chuck enjoyed dancing, leatherwork, socializing at the VFW and spending time with family. He will be remembered for his bravery, dedication, and compassion. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Sarah Marie (Ahlfield) Gaede.
He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth King, two children Tamera Gaede, Kyle Gaede and his wife RuthAnn, and their children Alicen and Brian.
Chuck will be laid to rest with full military honors at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on January 13, 2025, at 11:15am.
Chuck’s celebration of life will be held at VFW Post 3377 in Manchaca on December 18th at 7PM.
