Carol Marie Strassburger Hall, after a sudden and brief illness, went to be with our Lord on January 20, 2018, surrounded by her children and grandchildren who will miss her dearly. She was a resident of the Texas Masonic Retirement Center in Arlington, TX.
Carol was born on September 14, 1935 in Green Bay, WI., and attended the University of Wisconsin where she met Omar Plaisance of Milwaukee, WI. They married in 1957 and moved to Texas shortly thereafter.
She lived the rest of her life in Texas and raised five children in Houston and Pasadena. In addition to managing her large household, she worked and volunteered in several schools as well as at Christ Church Cathedral in Houston. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star where, amongst her many activities, she was a Past Worthy Matron of Chapter #711 and a Past Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls Assembly #93. She loved to travel and meet with fellow OES sisters and brothers. She frequently went ‘home’ to Wisconsin to see family and her many friends there. She also loved to go camping and was an avid reader and loved to quilt, crochet and play bridge. One of her most endearing qualities was her ability to quickly make friends. She loved animals and had many furry friends too. Carol loved living at TMRC which allowed her to reunite with many friends from Eastern Star, and make new ones.
Carol married Clyde Hall in 1986 and immediately expanded her family to include his, maintaining that relationship with them even after Clyde died. She had a special relationship with each child and grandchild and was intentional about being involved in their lives and attending events important to them. Besides her many gifts she was also passionate about her favorite teams which included the Houston Rockets, Wisconsin Badgers, and of course the Green Bay Packers.
She was preceded in death by her father Erich William and her mother Elaine Elizabeth (Rentmeester) Strassburger, her second husband Clyde E. Hall, her sister-in-laws Kathy Strassburger and Charlotte Lorbiecki, her brother-in-law Robert Lorbiecki, her father-in-law Omar Xavier Plaisance, and her mother-in-law Ann Ingram Plaisance. She is survived by her brother Bob and wife Carol Strassburger; her sons David Plaisance and wife Mary, Stephen Plaisance and wife Pam, Brian Plaisance and wife Sandra, Michael Plaisance and wife Mickie; her daughter Lisa and husband Todd Cantrell; her grandchildren Tony Plaisance, Lauren Plaisance and fiancée Mark Zemanek, Susan and husband Josh Baerenwald, Kevin Plaisance and wife Sarah, Sarah Plaisance, Ryan Plaisance, Travis Plaisance, Andrew Plaisance, and Matthew Plaisance; nephews and nieces Jim Strassburger and wife Sarah, Ron Strassburger and wife Kelly, Andra and husband Matt Parry, Cathy and husband Tom Zellmer, Linda Sue von Rautenkranz, and LeeAnn von Rautenkranz; her sister-in-law Patricia von Rautenkranz; her first husband Omar Plaisance; and numerous great nephews, great nieces, and “dear ones” who were like family and are too numerous to mention by name.
The family will celebrate her life with her fellow TMRC residents in Arlington, TX on February 16th and with family and friends in College Station, TX at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on March 3rd at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations in celebration of her life may be sent to the Texas Masonic Retirement Center, 1501 W Division St., Arlington, TX 76012.
