Born December 2, 1925, to Fred and Alma (nee Amundson) Paul in Montevideo, Minnesota, Ruth attended the University of Iowa. There she was a proud member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and the all-female Highlander Bagpipe Drill Team. It was at the University of Iowa, in 1946, that she met her future husband, Bob Lundstedt. After college, Ruth moved to Los Angeles to work with United Airlines. Ruth and Bob were married May 22, 1948, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa.
Bob, long an executive with International Harvester, was the grand love of her life. She gave up her wings as a “stewardess” with United Airlines for a marvelously textured marriage of 50 years that produced four sons. He died in September 1998.
Throughout her life, Ruth was committed to helping others. She was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter JX - an organization supporting women’s education - and volunteered as an English language tutor at Harper College. Ruth also gave her time to Northwest Community Hospital and was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church for over 65 years.
Ruth is survived by her children, Tom (Char), Dave, Bob (Michele), and Paul (Karin); her grandchildren, Scott (Melissa), Dan (Lauren), Heather (Stuart) Price, Britta (Cody) Hundertmark, Carl, Lulu, and Lawson; and her great-grandchildren, Brynn, Cole, Owen, Blair, Archie, Jack, and Mollie. She is also survived by her nieces Denise Hagerman and Karen Gordon; nephew Donald Hagerman; and many cousins.
Besides her beloved husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents Fred and Alma Paul; and her sister, Josephine "Dodie" Hagerman.
Ruth had a strong sense of adventure and fierce independence. Her warm personality and genuine interest in others made an impact on all who met her. She deeply loved her sons, daughters- in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
For the last 11 years of her life, Ruth resided at The Moorings of Arlington Heights. She made many friends and received superb care from the staff, nurses, and physicians. The family would like to thank the entire Moorings family for the love and kindnesses extended to her.
