Edward Gene Walsh was born February 4, 1931 in St. Lukes Hospital in Chicago to Thomas and Anna Mary (nee Henry ) Walsh of the village of Townyeena in County Mayo Ireland. He died of chronic heart failure April 23, 2024 at Encore Village in Schaumburg where he resided for the past 10 years. He died peacefully surrounded by family and under the compassionate care of a number of extraordinary caregivers. His early life was spent in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago before he volunteered and served in the Korean War. Capitalizing on the veteran benefits while also working 2 jobs and raising his young family, he graduated with a degree in accounting from DePaul University and moved to Lombard IL. He retired from Kraft Foods in December, 1996 after 38 years. His early retirement was spent in Naples, Fl with his wife. Once a widower, he met and enjoyed time and travel with Gillian Luiz. He later settled in Westmont IL before moving to Encore Village.
Edward was loved and will be missed by his children Mary Elizabeth (Chip) Kiesewetter, Kathleen Ann (Douglas) Swain, Ellen L. Nielsen, Susan M. (Ed) Wodka, Laura Jean Peterson, Joanne Fisher and Brian Thomas (Catherine) Walsh; his grandchildren Paige (Steven Perez) and Bobby Kiesewetter, Matthew (Amy) and Abigail Swain, Christopher (Lindsey) and William (Erin) Nielsen, Michael (Stephanie) and Melanie Gloss, Elizabeth and Anne Marie Peterson, Andrew, Samantha (Grant Fuller) and Edward (Priscilla) Fisher and Caroline and Jason Walsh; and his great-grandchildren Lily, Aiden, Jack, Noelle, Casey, Kayla, Henry, Sloane, Elias, Lincoln and Jaxson.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 ½ years, Loretta (Davini) Walsh; and his brother's Thomas and John.
Visitation Friday, May 3, 2024 at St. James Catholic Church, 820 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, from 9:00 am until the time of Mass at 10:00 am. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
