Anna grew up in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland. She began studying piano at a young age and eventually completed the requirements for a teaching certificate.
She married Kevin “Des” Walshe in 1954 and they emigrated to the United States in 1957. She and Des raised 3 children: Kevin, Brian, and Jean. They lived in White Plains, NY, South Windsor, CT, Rochester, NY and Westfield, NJ during the early years. In 1970 they began a series of overseas assignments which took them to Buenos Aires, Antwerp, The Hague, and Judibana (Venezuela).
Wherever she lived, she supported Des in his new work assignments and helped her children adjust to their new schools and lives overseas.
When Des died in 1983, she began a new phase of her life in Westfield NJ. In addition to teaching piano and playing bridge, she spent much of her time in volunteer activities at Overlook Hospital and serving as a Eucharistic Minister.
Then in 2001, she moved to the northwest suburbs of Chicago for the last 21 years of her life, where she was able to enjoy time with grandchildren, and as she did throughout her life, she dedicated much of her time to volunteering and helping others through the Church.
Anna found purpose and direction from her strong Catholic faith and tried to attend Mass every day. She was a kind-heartened, sweet, and gentle person with a wonderful sense of humor. We will miss her greatly.
Anna was the beloved wife of the late Kevin Desmond Walshe; loving mother of Kevin Walshe, Brian (Elaine) Walshe and Jean (Mark) Stasik; cherished grandmother of Daniel Walshe, Maura Walshe, Sara (Patrick) O’Brien, Michael (Shelley) Stasik, Danielle Stasik and Jenna Stasik; great-grandmother of Jenson O’Brien and dear sister of Ena (John) Hyland, Frank Tuohy, Anthony Tuohy and the late Thomas Tuohy, Joseph Tuohy, Vincent Tuohy and Maura Tuohy.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Church in Westfield, NJ. Her remains will be interred with her late husband at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.lauterburgoehler.com for the Walshe family.
