Alvin W. Vogt, age 83, passed peacefully in his sleep into the waiting arms of Jesus on Monday, January 24, 2022. He was born on December 6, 1938 in Des Plaines, IL the son of Alvin August Vogt and Clara Wilhelmina Frank. Alvin was the son and grandson of German-American farmers. While attending school, Alvin worked at a bakery in Des Plaines. After graduating from Maine Township High School, until his retirement, he was employed as a phone directory printer for General Telephone located in Des Plaines, IL.
He was a devoted church usher, scripture reader, choir member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Skokie, IL and Midwest Walther League president. He found solace in visiting area Christmas Eve services and planting hundreds of annuals to beautify the home he purchased in 1968 in Edgewood where he lived until 2017. In 2017, he became a resident of the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights, IL. He never had formal music lessons but skillfully played organ and piano by ear. In the evening, he entertained his fellow Lutheran Home residents with his piano playing.
Born an extrovert, he lived to socialize; arranging for a Walther League annual trip to Camp Arcadia, In Arcadia, Michigan, which is a Lutheran summer camp on Lake Michigan, owned and operated by the Lutheran Church. He was fascinated with the nostalgia of covered bridges, annually traveling to Indiana for the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival. He'd spend summers at White Sox Park with his brother engrossed in the White Sox baseball games. He attended the Naperville Youth Symphony Orchestra concerts to enjoy the music of his great-niece, Isabelle. He enthusiastically cheered on his great nephew, Grant, at Grant's basketball and football games. He regularly traveled to Midwest organ concerts. Golfing with his brother and bowling with his friends kept him active. Family looked forward to Alvin's visits with his positive, ever-present, entertaining sense of humor and sense of caring. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Alvin is survived by his loving brother, Don Vogt (Carolyn); niece, Donna (Tony Loza) and great-niece, Isabelle Loza; niece, Caryn Rylander and great-nephew, Grant Rylander; many dear cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Lutheran Home for their love, respect, and devoted care given to Alvin.
