Eric Mark Nakata was born November 27, 1955 in Pasadena, Ca. He was raised by his father, Larry Natsuso Nakata and his grandparents, Matsuichi and Ura Nakata, in Pacoima, Ca. Growing up, he attended Montague Street School and graduated from John H. Francis Polytechnic High School in 1973. He was a multi-sport athlete, especially proud of his rugby participation.
Eric continued his love of sports by coaching his childrens' baseball, softball, soccer and basketball teams. During those years, he also served as the Apple Valley Little League President and Commissioner of the High Desert Youth Soccer League. He was a loyal and true UCLA and Raiders football fan.
Eric was active in his faith and was involved in the growth and development of First Baptist Church of Sun Valley and High Desert Church. He provided mentorship and leadership for many years for youth group and various Bible studies.
Judge Nakata practiced law as a Deputy District Attorney from 1984 to 1995 and was in private practice from 1982 to 1984. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1982. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from Southwestern University of Law in 1982. He attended UCLA for two years then transferred to California State University at Northridge gradutating in 1978 with a B.S. in Psychology.
Eric Mark Nakata is survived by his wife, Michelle, his son, Mark, daughter-in-law, Alexandra, granddaughter, Ava and Harper, grandson, Liam Drone-MacNeil and daughter Laurie. He was predeceased by his daughter, Emily and father, Larry Nakata.
