Dopher, Donald David, 66, of Victorville, CA, passed away unexpectedly on November 28, 2024, due to complications from heart surgery. A native of Terre Haute, Indiana, Don was born on February 24, 1958, to Walter C. and Vanita (Collings) Dopher, Jr. He was a 1976 graduate of North Vigo High School.
After graduation, Don enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado and served in Germany. An avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and camping, Don fell in love with Colorado's landscape and chose to settle there to raise a family. His career in the electric power industry eventually led him to Victorville, CA, where he worked as an Electrical Technician High Voltage Specialist at High Desert Power Project (HDPP) for over 20 years. Highly regarded by his colleagues, Don played a key role in HDPP's success and earned the respect and admiration of his co-workers.
Don will be remembered for his friendly personality, competitive spirit, adventurous nature, and his dry yet warm sense of humor.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Ali Balcazar, who was faithfully by his side to the very end. Don is also survived by his children: Jordon and Jessica of Harrison, MI; Avery and James Bechtel of Arvada, CO; and Samantha and Anna Rice of Strasburg, CO; their mother, Sandra (Allen) Dopher; his eight grandchildren; siblings, Vivian Phelps, Marcia Walker, and Ken Dopher; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to honor Don's life will be held at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley, CA, January 11, 2025.
