David Oakley Judd died at home with his wife and daughter after a fierce battle with cancer on September 24, 2024. He was born on September 27th, 1941 to Max and Irma Judd, in Price, Utah. David was the middle child, born between Jim (5 years older), and Robert (15 years younger). When David was nearly 5 years old, his family moved to El Monte, California, followed by Riverside, California. In high school, he was a member of the Sires Car Club and also participated in several plays. He was even able to grow a complete beard during his senior year. David met Lynda Peterson–his high school sweetheart–who he married 5 years later on July 26th, 1963 in the Los Angeles Temple. David and Lynda attended BYU where he got his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Psychology.
After graduation, they moved to Crestline, California, where he started in the Welfare Department but quickly moved to the Probation Department, where he remained for the rest of his career. In 1972 they adopted David Sam and then in 1975, they adopted Rachel.
David O. was a family man, taking his family on many adventures because of his love for traveling. He always had a German Shepherd and he always had a motorcycle. David had a green thumb and when you went to his house, you wouldn't know he lived in the desert. He retired in 1997 from probation and started his 2nd career in outdoor film photography. He traveled to all 7 continents and took photos everywhere he went. In 2002 he began taking photos for Browntrout and did Moons Calendars for over 20 years.
David served in his church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in various callings throughout his duration. David was full of life, living life to the fullest, and shared his wisdom, his adventure, and his love with everyone who was important to him. He is preceded in death by his father David Max Judd, his mother Irma Ruth Storrs Judd, and his brother Jim Arlen Judd. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years Lynda Judd, his son David Samuel Judd, his daughter and son-in-law Rachel & Josh Rees, and his 4 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 8th at 9:30am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 9553 Hickory Ave, Hesperia, CA 92345. Interment will be held at Sunset Hills Mortuary at 1 pm, 2400 Waalew Rd, Apple Valley, CA 92307.
