Bill passed away peacefully this past Friday am. A kind, gentle, generous man he was born in Nellis, West Virginia, “escaping” the coal mines by enlisting in the United States Air Force at age 18. He then served as An Air Force Rescue Medic for the next twenty years. While stationed in England he met a beautiful young lass, Patricia, beginning an enduring romance that would last 62 years.
Around the world Pat and Bill raised their children, Vicki and Mark, eventually settling in Victorville after Bill’s first “retirement.” He then worked another twenty years in Civil Service as a Hydraulic Specialist at Barstow Marine Base. Even then he did not rest but served actively as a volunteer. For the last fourteen years, up until even last week, he worked passionately at the St. Mary’s Medical Center Gift Shop.
Lest it seem he was all work and no play, Pat and Bill were very active socially. From membership in the British Wives’ Club to weekly Square Dancing to trips to Vegas, San Diego, and Ocean Cruises they lived a life rich with love, laughter, and friendship. Bill had a steadfast joyful faith in God, Country and, particularly, his family (including his dog Bailey!). One of his greatest pleasures was his time spent with his grandchildren. While they lived “up the hill” and the grandkids lived “down” Pat and Bill attended everything they could, from their births to their B’nai Mitzvahs to graduations, with innumerable dance recitals and ball games thrown in.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Patricia; children Mark and Vicki (Seth) Kogan and grandchildren Emily, Michael, and Alex Kogan.
