Thomas Anthony Albanese, age 75, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, in Apopka, Florida. Born in Syracuse, New York, on December 31, 1948, to Dominick and Charlotte Albanese, Tom lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure.
A graduate of East Syracuse-Minoa High School (Class of 1968), Tom was an avid athlete, excelling in football, lacrosse, and wrestling. He later pursued his passion for learning by attending trade schools to further his education as a draftsman.
Tom proudly served in the United States Naval Reserve from January 13, 1969, to September 24, 1970. After his service, he built a successful career at Sprint, retiring in 2002 after 25 years in Data Center Network Operations.
Tom’s family was his greatest joy. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rita Lou Albanese; his brother, Vincent James Albanese; and his beloved daughters, Cristina Marie, Nicole Angela, Jennifer Ann, and Michelle Lynn. He was the cherished grandfather to 12 grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather of one.
Tom took immense pride in his Italian heritage, which he celebrated through his love of family, food, and tradition. He found joy in sharing stories, preserving family recipes, and embracing the values of hard work and generosity that defined his upbringing.
Known for his infectious smile and playful sense of humor, Tom was the ultimate prankster. He had a deep love for life’s simple pleasures: spending time with family, supporting his grandchildren’s activities, and reconnecting with relatives on trips to Syracuse.
Tom pursued a wide array of interests with passion. He earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, mastered various martial arts, and enjoyed hunting, target practice, and bowling. An avid sports fan, he never missed a chance to watch football, basketball, or golf. He relished fishing trips with friends, especially during the Mahi runs in the Florida Keys, took great pride in his vegetable garden, landscaping, and maintaining his love for muscle cars.
A culinary enthusiast, Tom delighted in smoking meats, deep-frying seafood, and trying his hand at new recipes. Even something as simple as wandering a mall brought him joy, as he appreciated the art of exploring and observing.
Tom’s generous spirit and willingness to help those in need left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Baldwin Fairchild Apopka Chapel (601 N Park Ave, Apopka, FL 32712) on Tuesday December 31, 2024 at 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. Military honors will be performed at 2:00 pm.
