William English (94), longtime resident of Monroe, Shallotte and Apex, NC, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2022 in the loving care of his son and daughter-in-law at the home he shared with them in Pittsboro.
Bill was born on September 12, 1927 in High Point, NC to the late John and Roberta English. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Juanita (née Williams) and brothers Murphy, Robert and Frank.
Bill was full of life and full of love. He never met a stranger and befriended many people, both young and old, taking them into his family fold. He enjoyed many hobbies and interests over the years including golfing, fishing, traveling, cooking, tailgating at football games and most especially spending time with his family and friends. He was an Eagle Scout, a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, a graduate of North Carolina State University, and former Wolfpack Club Chairman of Union County. His zest for life never stopped. In his later years, he worked to perfect his fudge and brittle recipes, winning numerous blue ribbons and Best of Show at the State Fair. He fulfilled a life-long dream when he enrolled in flight school at Wings of Carolina, ultimately passing his FAA written exam at the age of 89.
He was adored by his family and will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Bill English (Anne Ferguson), John English (Sandy); daughter, Sarah Pinion (Mitch); his brother, Cecil (91); seven grandchildren, Thomas Pinion, Mary Parris (Cody), Martha Pinion, Elizabeth Teel (Brandon), Rebekah Pinion, Will English, Laurel Franklin (Adam); and four great grandchildren, Chase Metcalf, Ledger Franklin, Noa Franklin, Easton Teel.
An open service, followed by a reception, will be held on Tuesday, March 22 at 1:00 PM at Apex Funeral Home located at 550 West Williams St., Apex, NC 27502.
Bill was a big-hearted man who fought daily the challenges presented by his numerous heart conditions. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the American Heart Association at heart.org.
