Virginia Singletary McKeithan passed away on March 2, 2022, after a stroke. A strong, quiet woman with a quick wit and dry sense of humor, she was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend who treasured her family. Her quiet strength will be sorely missed.
She was born to the late Julian and Laura Pait Singletary on July 4, 1938, in Bladen County. She graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1956 and attended Campbell College where she obtained a secretarial certification. After moving to Raleigh she worked at the Killo Exterminating Company. On October 9, 1960, she married Robert McKeithan of Clarkton. After moving several times to Kentucky and Maryland to follow Robert’s career, they settled in Cary in 1968. Virginia returned to the workforce and worked for several state agencies before retiring from the Administrative Office of the Courts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert McKeithan; parents, Julian and Laura Singletary, and her brother, Lennon Singletary. Left to cherish Virginia’s memory are her children Robby (Rebecca) McKeithan, Susan (Keith) Trimble grandchildren, Jessica McKeithan, Casey McKeithan, and Jake (Jackie) Trimble, great-grandchildren Colton and Sunnie Trimble; brothers Durham Singletary of Elizabethtown and inlaws, Jimmy Harris of Greenville, Roy McKeithan (Anna) of Clarkton, Sarah McKeithan Edwards of Wilmington, and David McKeithan of Castle Hayne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on Wednesday, March 9, at 10:30, at White Plains United Methodist Church. She will be interred in Bladen County at the New Pait Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon.
