Stefani Sayers Martin, 41, Holly Springs, NC died tragically on June 12, 2021 from injuries sustained by falling from her golf cart near her home. Though they are devastated, her family hopes the shock of her passing will not overshadow the loving, fulfilling and bright life she lived.
Stefani was born to Mike and Cheryl Sayers on July 16, 1979 in Phoenix, AZ and raised in a number of cities including Denver, Rochester and Indianapolis before moving to Naperville, IL where she received middle school and high school education. While at Waubonsie Valley High School, Stefani played tennis, ran track, was a cheerleader and first dated her future husband, Jeremy Martin.
She graduated with a degree in psychology at the University of Iowa and embraced her sisters at Kappa Alpha Theta and her role as president of the sorority. She attended optometry school in California and Florida and received a doctor of optometry degree (OD) from Nova Southeastern University. She later went on to receive a fellowship certification in Vision Development from the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD). Stefani was a board certified optometrist in Florida and North Carolina.
Stefani founded her optometry practice, Ocean Optics, in Delray Beach, FL which focused on general vision, children’s vision and vision therapy. After 10 years, she sold her practice to focus on her children and family. She most recently worked part time at MyEyeDr in Cary, NC.
Stefani was a dedicated mother and wife who treasured her children and embraced every moment with them, but also found time for “date night” and travel with her husband. Family was vitally important to Stefani and she adored her mother and best friend, Cheryl. She had a kind and bright personality and made lasting friendships everywhere her life took her.
Stefani had a flair for baking, colorful style and a passion for travel. She had a lifelong love of dance, and from a young age she participated (and won) many dance competitions; growing up, she spent time helping at her mother’s dance studio teaching dance classes to children. In 2006, she took advantage of her dance background and was selected to be a member of the Miami Dolphins cheerleading team.
Stefani was the cherished wife of Jeremy Martin for more than 16 years, loving mother to J.R. Martin (9) and Mackenna (7), and beloved daughter of Mike and Cheryl Sayers.
Stefani was a parish member at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church and an organ donor which, with her passing, has helped give life to several others in need.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorials contributions may be donated to Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3008 Old Raleigh Rd, Apex, NC 27502.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Apex, NC on July 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Following the service, there will be a reception in the fellowship hall. Please no black attire; wear bright colors to celebrate Stefani’s vibrant life, personality and sense of style.
