Sharon married Ira Eugene Stanley in 1961 and began her adventures as a military wife, living in both international and stateside locations.
As Ira neared retirement from the military, he and Sharon felt a calling upon their lives to start a Christian work in northern New York. Initially the Christian work was a Bible study held in her mother’s home. Eventually interest in the study would grow to such proportions that it became necessary to purchase a building. This building became North Country Christian Center. Later NCCC would operate a Christian school and Sharon served as its first principal.
Later in life, Ira and Sharon formed CMAI, Christian Ministerial Alliance International, which helps churches and pastors worldwide. Their international travels in the military helped cultivate a desire to spread the Gospel to the "ends of the earth" and they began frequent mission trips to places such as the Philippines, Kenya, Russia and Vietnam.
Sharon is survived by husband, Ira; son, Michael of Mobile, Alabama; daughter and son-in-law, Jeff and Sherril Barnhill of Cary, North Carolina; step-daughter, Deborah Nunnery of Mobile, Alabama and six grandchildren: Melissa, Steven, Brittney, Ashley, Joshua and Jake. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Ellen Etheridge of Putnam Alabama, and her six brothers: Keith of Tupper Lake, New York, Roger of Smryna, Delaware, Darrell of Suwanne, Georgia, Bruce of Barre, Vermont, Brian of Lovettsville, Virginia and Kevin of Raleigh, North Carolina as well as several nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
A beautiful light has gone out in this world only to add to the splendor of heaven. Sharon will be greatly missed by all her family and many friends.
