Robert was born on October 22, 1927 in Clarkston, GA and is predeceased by his parents Reba Bennett and Robert Orville Smith, Sr. He was the oldest of 4 children and is predeceased by his brother Douglas. He is survived by his sister Margaret Cousins (husband Richard) of Buckhead, GA, sister Glynton Smith of Atlanta, GA, and several nieces and nephews.
Robert is predeceased by his first wife Una (Tonya) Monson Mills and his second wife Genevia Batts. He is survived by his third wife of nearly 14 loving years, Ruby Rivenbark Smith. He was the loving father to 3 adopted children and 4 step children. Robert is predeceased by step daughters Jan Dowdy and Sandra Wait. He is survived by his step sons Darrel Rivenbark (wife Kathy) and Dannie Rivenbark (wife Patricia) along with many grand children and great grand children.
Robert served honorably in the Navy during World War II in 1945 and the Korean War in 1951 before being honorably discharged.
While Robert was a man of many talents, he had a special love of restoring classic cars to their pristine glory. He served on the Board of Directors of The Mustang Club in Atlanta, GA. Robert also organized 5 Mustang Clubs throughout Eastern NC, and 1 in SC.
Visitation will be at Apex Funeral Home located at 550 W. Williams St Apex, NC on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Funeral service will be held at The Church of Latter Day Saints- Apex Ward located at 590 Bryan Dr., Apex, NC on Wednesday December 12, 2012 at 10:00am. Burial service will follow Wednesday afternoon at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery located at 6269 S NC 41 Hwy Wallace, NC at 3:00pm.
