Myra Thelma Cunningham

Mrs. Myra Thelma Truckenmiller Cunningham, 88, a resident of Apex, NC since 2020, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.

Myra was born on April 10, 1934 in Watsontown, PA to Ward and Thelma Truckenmiller.

Myra was a farm girl at heart, raised on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania, one of eight children.

She married high school sweetheart Chester William Cunningham in 1952 and they celebrated 66 years of marriage until Chet's (Bill) passing in 2019.

Marriage to Bill brought her to NY where she worked in the local school system, and later in retail. Myra was active in her local church.

Myra and Chet purchased and renovated a 1747 stone farm house in Saugerties, NY, where they loved entertaining family and friends. Myra enjoyed planting flowers and brought color and beauty to their 35 acre farm.

Family was the joy of Myra’s life. She is survived by daughters Lorraine Paris (Robert) of Wappingers Falls, NY, Brenda Schmadeke (James) of Holly Springs, NC, and son Brian Cunningham (Tammy) of Wallkill, NY.

Also surviving are grandchildren Jeff (Natalie) Schmadeke, Lee Paris, Lucas (Laura) Cunningham, Benjamin Schmadeke (Paige), Elizabeth Paris, Zachary (Melissa) Cunningham and Brianna Cunningham.

Myra had five great grandchildren: Nicholas, Thomas, Dara, Eleanor, and June. Myra has two surviving siblings, Earl Truckenmiller and Natalie (John) Teufel of Pennsylvania.

A memorial service will be held this spring in Pennsylvania.
