Laurence Clifton Pearce, a man of many passions and a great zest for life, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife Carol at Transitions Lifecare Hospice on October 11, 2018 after a long battle with various illnesses. He was 66. He is survived by his wife, Carol, stepdaughter Tamara Spahr, stepson Timothy Spahr, Tim’s wife Teresa, six grandchildren, his dog Patton and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Georgia White Pearce and John Williford Pearce, and his brother, John Williford Pearce Jr.
Laurence was born, raised, and lived all of his life in the Raleigh area. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970-1973. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked many years for Roy’s Uniform Services (later bought by Cintas). He also began and operated his own pest control business, Affordable Pest Control, which operated for over 25 years.
Laurence was an avid tennis player but his first passion was scuba diving. He dove all over the world, logging over 550 dives! Shortly after he met his wife Carol, he introduced her to the sport. Their first dive trip was to Nassau, Bahamas. The evening after their first day of diving Laurence grabbed a microphone from local musicians, jumped up on the bar and asked Carol to marry him! For many years the two of them made two dive trips a year, often including family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3pm on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams Street, Apex, NC. The family will receive friends following the service.
