John was the DJ at our wedding. Then I saw him at church at a Rise Against Hunger event. His Faith in the Lord and his happiness to serve others was catching! We remember him with love. We were sad for a while but we know God has called his warrior home. 

The meetings were never dull with John around. The Wesley Foundation dances were never boring with his DJ skills. I admired his kindness. Many times he gave the “shirt off his back”.  My car broke down in Faison NC and he and his dad helped me install new alternator. I needed a place to stay for only one 5-week summer session at NCSU and he offered his apartment room. We were blessed to enjoy his musical talents at our wedding (photo attached).  Notice his talents were evident but he always kept being humble (back row stance). The family is in our thoughts and prayers. 

I graduated with John in 1984 from North Duplin High school.. We met in the 5th grade and became life long friends! We enjoyed singing and performing together as well as just having great conversations about life. He could be so funny and he enjoyed helping others feel good about themselves.  He was a beautiful soul, kind, humble and sweet. My prayers for his family for their loss. 

One of my last Christmas working with John Lewis but always came back to see him and watch a movie.

John and I were classmates at NDHS, and graduates of the Class of 1984. I loved his personality, his beautiful singing voice. He was kind and gentle just an all around great guy.  
I will miss most our short conversations on social media regarding my son and any performance John would see and hear D’Andre sing, he would always compliment his vocal talent. I will my birthday shout out from ‘DJ John’ as we were both December babies. Rest in Paradise John, you earned your rest.

John was cheerful and caring. He was always helping others.  For example, I recall dedicating lots of time trucking food to the needy.  
He was well loved by many in our neighborhood and will be missed. 


I am so sorry for the loss of John. He was my manager at AMC for awhile and I always enjoyed when we worked together. He was quite the guy. Always had a smile on his face that was very contagious. The world needs more people like John Lewis, and he will be missed. 

I remember meeting John first as a customer at Amc and then again as a coworker at Amc. When I went in for my first shift he was the first to introduce himself there and even from that second I wasn’t nervous about the job and he made it seem so fun. Even on my stressful days when John came in he always knew what to say to brighten that day up. I would stand there and ask myself how does one be so happy every single day and minute? So I asked him what makes you happy every day he said ,Joe there is many reasons to be happy,1. We are awake this great day so that means so far it’s good 2. If you have yourself a loving wife and loving kids and loving parents what’s not to be happy . He said just remember Joe no matter what bad things may pop up as long as you have those things you will always be happy. So after my brother passed away I was crushed and I did what I always did was seek his advice. I said DJ John how am I supposed to still be happy knowing now on a Mother’s Day that my older brother passed away. He said Joe remember god doesn’t take the ones we love for fun he takes them for many reasons 1. To stop the pain and suffering that the person is having. 2. That it probably was just their time to be with there father in heaven. But whatever you do don’t be to sad be happy that the person is now pain free and the person is with the father in heaven but rejoice in knowing we will all meet again someday.But remember it’s ok to cry and it’s ok to be sad but most of all be Happy in the end  and for that John I am sad and very heartbroken but I will be happy because you said we will see each other again some day you are forever remembered never to be forgotten. Rest in heaven now until we meet again 

I just can't imagine the world without John. He was so kind and helpful and funny. Years ago I was having horrible back pain and my husband was out of town. I called John and he brought his family over and helped me stretch and just kept my mind off of it. You could always count on him for help. If you needed to know a singer or a movie, you just had to ask John. He cared about his family and was so proud of them. They sang in church last Sunday and it was beautiful, so beautiful it almost brought my husband to tears. I really don't have the words to express this loss.

John Lewis was just a beautiful human being inside and out. He made you aspire to be a better person. He was such a giving person. There is no telling how many people he helped moved. He help me navigate setting up my new television 8 years ago. I was always glad when is on a mission trip.  For someone who lived 56 years it was quite a 56 years of life. I will miss him but I know he will continue live in our memories and hearts.
