Harold Prince Nunn, 72 of Apex, passed away on August 31, 2022. Harold was born on June 26, 1950 in Mt Olive, NC to his parents, Paul and Helen Nunn. He graduated from North Lenoir High School in 1968 and was a Graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a concentration in Accounting.
After being employed by a major CPA firm for several years, Harold started his own successful firm, Nunn and Associates, specializing in health care and nursing home accounting and tax. Peak Resources, Inc. was born of this experience in 1999, when Harold sold his Accounting firm to his staff and began his career in the nursing home industry. His adventurous entrepreneurial spirit did not stop there, it led him to open many other companies supporting health care such as BSI (medical supply company), Continuum (therapy company), and Center Street Pharmacy. And just for fun, Apex Flex Storage and Flip n Fly, a trampoline park in Wilmington.
One of Harold’s passions outside of business and growth in his professional life was his philanthropic work with Children’s Flight of Hope. He and Deborah Jean have supported CFOH for more than 15 years and they are a member of the Legacy of Hope Society. They were honored with the 30th Anniversary Award just this past November, which was a proud moment for our entire family to witness. To their CFOH family and friends, Thank You.
Something that many know about him is his love for cars. His classic car collection could probably impress even the most avid of collectors. He loved to host family and friends, showcase his cars and cook incredible meals. Harold was also a connoisseur of wine and loved to host charity and wine maker and events on “The Farm“. He loved fishing and boating as well. He fished in several big fish tournaments on the East Coast. Just a few days before his death, he caught and reeled in a blue marlin weighing over 600 pounds off of the coast of Maryland. He loved to Golf. Harold was a charter member of MacGregor Downs Country Club and golfed that course hundreds of times over the years, most recently only two weeks before his death.
If not at home in Apex, he was usually at his second home in the mountains of NC, Linville Ridge, where he was also a member of the Linville Ridge Country Club. The mountain house was a special place where Harold and Deborah Jean made incredible friends. His children often joke that it was like a 70 years and up spring break, there in the mountains. He enjoyed the golf there, the quiet natural beauty, the friendships and the parties. He kept a large assortment of favorite “party jackets” there, He had style! Harold loved his family time at his home on Marco Island in Florida. The boating, fishing, the dock, outdoor cooking, happy hours, pool, card games and putt-putt with his grandsons and amazing restaurants were all enjoyed by him with his family. And as a family, Marco is our favorite place to be together. Marco with him is special, it’s magic. It will never be the same for us.
Harold and Deborah Jean had just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary 9 days before his death. They were able to celebrate that time alone together on “The Farm” in Apex and reflect on the life that they have created together over steaks on the grill (Harold made the best) and fine red wine. It was their favorite kind of meal together. It was perfect.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Paul Nunn.
Harold is lovingly remembered by his wife, Deborah Jean Nunn; daughter, Mary Ashley Hill (Brian) grandsons Jackson and Campbell Hill; son Tyler Nunn; step-daughter Mandy Reutter (Jennifer); step-son Joseph Reutter (Jessica); brother Paul Nunn (Pat); nephews Todd and Jeff Nunn; sister Cathy Daughety, niece Faith Outlander, Sister Johnny Peele (John); niece Leigh and many close friends.
Family will receive friends and guests on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM with time to share stories and memories over light snacks.
