Doris West Finnell was born on June 20, 1925, in Massey Hill, NC, to Furman Braxton West and Mamie Willard Barnes West. She was the oldest child of five in the family. Doris graduated from High School in Apex, NC, and moved to LA to work as a teletypist during WWII. While in LA, she met and married Charles William Finnell on February 14, 1945, and they were married for 52 years.
They resided in Sedalia, Missouri, for 50 years. Doris worked for Town and Country Shoe Factory for 32 years. She was a member of East Sedalia Baptist Church and her faith was very important to her as was her family. Following her husband’s death in 1997, she moved back to Apex, NC and attended Catawba Springs Christian Church.
Doris was also preceded in death by one brother. She is survived by sons Gary (wife Pam) and Glen (wife Pam), 2 sisters, 1 brother, 1 sister-in-law, 6 grandchildren (and spouses); 7 great-grandchildren and a large extended family.
Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, at Catawba Springs Christian Church, 6801 Ten-Ten Road, Apex, NC followed by the service at 12:00 noon. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Fuquay-Varina. you wish to send flowers or make a contribution to the Arthritis Foundation, that would be appreciated.
