Tony was born on July 16, 1935, in Jay Maine to the late Peter Leroy and Grace (Volpe) Gonnella. He is survived by his wife, Jeannine (Perez) Gonnella; the mother of his children, Barbara (Palermo) Gonnella; brother, Leroy Gonnella; sister, Ann Powers; sons Mark Gonnella (Shelley), John Gonnella (Tracey) and Paul Gonnella (Amanda), Kerry Gonnella; his grandchildren, Jordan (Chelsea), Jennifer, Taylor, Angela (Matt), Anthony, Paul Angelo, Nina, Anna, Cam, Francesca, Joey, Michael Peter, Rocco, Tony Fuentes and Gabe Fuentes; his great grandkids, Violet, Avery and Brady; along with many nieces and nephews, who will continue to honor his memory by embodying the values he lived by and proudly carrying on the Gonnella name.
As we all know, Tony was a master carpenter by which Jeannine took full advantage of but most of all, he was more than happy to do it. He worked along with his brothers Bob and George at Gonnella Construction Company for many years.
Tony Gonnella was truly an original, and it’s a great loss to the Gonnella Family. It gives us great comfort to know that he’s with his sons, and predeceased brothers and sisters, Bob, Ginny, and George.
No one can dispute the love that Tony and Jeannine had for one another, or the love he had for his entire family. He truly was an example of what a good man should be.
Tony was a huge Boston Sports Fan; Celtics, Patriots, Bruins but he truly loved the Red Sox. In Tony’s words DO NOT WEAR A SUIT to the service. Dress casual with Red Sox or your favorite sports team.
The service will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams Street, Apex, NC 27502.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your local non -profit dog rescue group in honor of “Rocky” – Tony’s 2nd best friend.
