Steve was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, on April 14, 1964. After receiving his GED, he attended the University of Minnesota, where he made the Dean’s List, demonstrating his dedication to learning.
Steve’s life was marked by resilience and determination. After college he moved to Fairbanks Alaska. He returned to Minnesota and, in 1998, he was involved in a tragic car accident. Miraculously, he survived and went on to persevere through his injuries to live life to its fullest. He spent several years in Mankato before moving to Duluth in the spring of 2019. He met his fiancée, Tara Levitt in Duluth. A few months ago, Steve proposed to Tara, and they were excitedly planning their wedding for this summer.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Eldred Hoover and Lois (and Roy) Landela.
He is survived by his siblings: brothers Timothy (Cheri) Youngren, Ethan Hoover, Nathan Hoover, and his sister Lisa (Jerry) Lehne and step-siblings Roberta and Hollie (Chris) Holcombe. He was a loving and proud uncle to April, Rebecca, Ethan, Alexa, Chris, Karynn, Jon, Ryan, and Angela, as well as a great uncle. He is also survived by his Aunties, Helen and Edith.
Steve had a lifelong passion for cartography, the study of maps. He would spend his free time doing research projects at the libraries and loved hiking and biking. He was also an avid Gophers, Vikings, and Twins fan, but most of all he cherished the time spent with family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date post-holidays. Instead of flowers or cards, please donate to a shelter for the homeless or Salvation Army, show an act of kindness, or defend the defenseless. These were things my brother would do.
