Louise Hall Vaughn

Louise Hall Vaughn passed away April 22, 2017 at Traditions Way in the Sara Barger Health Center of Capstone Village at the University of Alabama, at the age of 90. Visitation will be Friday, May 5, 2017, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Anniston. Graveside service will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017, 11 a.m. at Forestlawn Gardens in Anniston with the Rev. Michael Bailey officiating. Immediately following the burial, the family will receive friends at Classic on Noble in Anniston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vesta Hall and Eber Hall; her husband, Garvin Vaughn; her son, Jackie Wiggins; sisters, Margaret Norton, Earlene Turner Kooken and Eva Hayes; brothers, Russell Hall, Dock Hall and Ellis Hall.

She is survived by sons, Dr. Ross Vaughn (Julie), of Tuscaloosa, and Deryl Wiggins (Gloria), of Ozark; step- daughter, Brenda Thompson (David), of Alexandria; stepson, Mike Vaughn, of Jacksonville; sister, Dorothy Dimattia, of Pell City; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was born on Christmas Day 1926 in Jacksonville and grew up in Trickum Valley in Cleburne County after her parents separated at the age of 6. Her Depression Era childhood was filled with hard work but plenty of fun with 7 siblings on a farm with her mother. A hard worker and dedicated mother, she worked for Southern Bell and General Electric raising two sons as a single mother before moving to Saks and marrying her second husband, Garvin, in 1964, who had two children as well. An unexpected surprise came a few years later when Ross was born, and she had to reprise her roles as den mother for Cub Scouts and room mother at school. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, ceramics, gardening, and traveling. With tongue in cheek, she enlisted the help of friends and family to save aluminum cans to help send Ross to medical school, and quickly retired from the office at Anniston Sportswear the month after he graduated. Later, as Garvin's health failed, the two moved to Tuscaloosa where Ross could look after them. She was a member of Northridge Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa and was formerly a faithful member of Leatherwood Baptist Church in Anniston. After moving, she sorely missed all of her friends from church and from her quilting club, until the ravages of dementia stole those memories away. For the past 5 years she has lived at Capstone Village under the tender care of the wonderful staff at Traditions Way to whom her family will be eternally grateful.

Pallbearers will be Bradley Vaughn, Chris Wiggins, John Wiggins, Jason Wiggins, Daniel Wiggins, Dave Thompson, Chase Johnson and Shawn Crawford. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Scott Fulgham, Veranda Melton and all the staff of Traditions Way, and Hospice of West Alabama.
