Anniston - Funeral services for Mr. Dexter Wade Thomas, 55 of Anniston will be Wednesday February 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home Rev. Michael Howard officiating with burial following at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
Mr. Thomas passed away February 22, 2013 at RMC in Anniston.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of 26 years Ruth Thomas of Anniston; daughter, Angie (Jimmy) Fisher of Alexandria; son, Tim (Jennifer) Leahey of Wellington; mother, Mary June Thomas of Anniston; brothers, Leon (Donna) Thomas of Talladega, Howard Richard (Jamie) Thomas of Lincoln; sister-in-law Sheila (Max) Zydowicz of Oxford; brother-in-law, Ron (Sherry) Harkins of Oxford; grandchildren, Brandon Dodgen, Ashley (Noah) McCulley, Dalton Fisher, Cheyenne Langley Kayla Mclain; great grandchildren, Madison McCulley and Eliot McCulley; Fur babies, Sassy, Ginger and several Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews; special friends, husband-in-law, Kenneth (Brenda) Leahey of Ohatchee.
Mr. Thomas is preceded in death by his father, Howard Richard Thomas Sr.; brother, Lewis Thomas.
Pallbearers will be John McNair, Terry Hale, Stacey Vinson, Curtis Clay, Mark Hale, Jimmy Fisher, Ed Howell and Gary Thomas.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Employees of Lee Brass in Oxford.
Dexter was a lifelong resident of Anniston, Alabama for 55 years. He was a graduate of Walter Wellborn High School Class of 1976. He was employed by Lee Brass for 30 years.
Dexter enjoyed camping, bluegrass music, Nascar racing, Alexandria Baseball and he was a huge Alabama Fan who loved attending the games with his grandson.
He was a very loving and caring family man who would always go out of his way to help others. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren and Fur babies. “PawPaw” was loved very very much. He will be sadly missed by those that had the privilege of knowing him.
