Theresa, as her friends knew her, was born on in Detroit on February 24, 1925 to Terrence McClean and Dorothy (Cove) McClean. Her given name at birth was Irene Theresa Emma McClean, as it is an Irish tradition for a person’s initials to spell something, and Theresa’s were “ITEM”. Following her first years in Michigan, she called many places home in the time that followed, before settling into her home on the South River in Annapolis in the early 1960s where she would live happily for the remainder of her life and could often be seen walking in the neighborhood.
Theresa completed high school and some higher education. Theresa was an avid gardener, and her lovely roses were a sight to see at her beautiful home on the South River. A career woman, Theresa held many positions, including holding administrative positions at the Pentagon, Woodward and Lothrop, the Maryland Governor’s mansion, and Anne Arundel County District Court for Judge Curly. She finished her working years hosting a small bed and breakfast, enjoying her role as a host to many people from all over. She was a truly giving person.
Theresa was preceded in death by her husbands Bill Crane and Donald Dearborn, her daughter Lynette Iglehart, grandson David Delehanty, as well as her parents Dorothy and Terrence McClean. She is survived by her brother Terrence McClean, her daughters Shelley Delehanty and Denise Crane, stepdaughters Debbie Penn, Bonnie Reeder, and Carol Burton, grandchildren Theresa Bradley, Stephanie West, Kendall Delehanty, Bill Schillenberg, Kelly Cook, Emily Penn, and Amanda Ripani, and numerous great grandchildren.
We will always carry her memory in our hearts.
A private family service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Annapolis; a Celebration of Life for Theresa will be held at a later date (details can be found on this website as they are finalized). At this time, memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
