Scott William Devanny, age 65, of Annapolis, Maryland passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024. Born in LaGrange, Indiana, he was the beloved son of Earl Hannum Devanny, II and Nancy Ousley Devanny Elder. Scott was the epitome of a southern gentleman, having spent a majority of his youth in Columbia, South Carolina. Scott graduated from Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, where his father had been the headmaster. He then went on to graduate from Sewanee, The University of the South, where he was a history and English major. A member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity, Scott loved his alma mater and the friendships he formed there.
After marrying the love of his life, Louise Bell Devanny, in 1991, the two of them settled down in Annapolis, Maryland where Scott worked in the orthopedic sales industry for nearly 40 years. Scott worked for Johnson & Johnson, Depuy, Biomet, and Smith and Nephew. In 2021, Scott joined Chesapeake Medical Imaging on their marketing and business development team, where he helped to increase their visibility in the state.
Scott had a giving spirit, a wonderful sense of humor, and was a great storyteller. Anyone who knew him was immediately put at ease by his southern charm. The greatest joy in his life was his daughter, Anna Louise “Boo.” He beamed whenever he spoke of her. He always referred to himself as Boo’s dad, and Louise’s husband.
Scott was Vice President and Chair of America 250 for the John Paul Jones Chapter, Maryland State Society Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). Scott also served as the State Recording Secretary for Maryland SAR. Scott enjoyed golfing, hunting, and boating. Scott was a past member of the Annapolitan Club and Annapolis Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years Louise, and his daughter Boo. He is also survived by his siblings Trace Devanny (Beverly), Chris Brown (Rich), and Warren Devanny, nieces Laurie Mays and Stacey Walker, and nephews Skip and Bill Devanny.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024, at 10:30 am at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salgi Esophageal Cancer Research Foundation in honor of Scott. https://salgi.org/ways-to-give/.
