Marianne was born on May 17, 1962, to Frank B. Wood, Jr. and Jane Elder Wood in Windber, Pennsylvania near where the family lived in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania. After Marianne graduated from Gateway Senior High School in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, she went on to study Elementary Education at West Virginia University. In addition to her Bachelor’s degree, Marianne earned two Master’s Degrees in Social Work and Counseling.
After graduating college, she moved to Annapolis, Maryland joining her parents who had retired to the area. She began her career as a first-grade teacher at Saint Andrew’s Day School in Edgewater, Maryland. As her career progressed, she became a long-term elementary school guidance counselor at Odenton Elementary School which was her last position before her retirement. She made friends and delighted children in the various schools where she worked. She touched countless children and their families as she guided youngsters in their formative years as she did her beloved nieces and nephews who spent many weekends and special occasions visiting her and the grandparents in Annapolis.
Marianne met her husband, Judson Hulsey, later in life, and enjoyed a nearly 9-year marriage. Marianne and Judson gave each other a lifetime of love in their brief time together. She was a spiritual soul and shared that faith with Judson. Marianne loved all holidays, especially Christmas, and her family and friends. She was the youngest of Frank and Jane’s four daughters. She maintained long-term friendships which she made in her youth, college, her early days in Annapolis at the Severn House, and in her teaching positions. Marianne was known for her kind heart, beautiful smile, and gentle soul. She was kind to everyone, always.
Marianne was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her husband Judson Hulsey, sisters Wendy Wood, Susan Wood (Santo LaTores), and Nancy Wood Hainey (Alan), her nieces Marian Strong (Brett Gregory) and Marisa Marcellino, nephews Matthew Marcellino and Bryson Wilson (Megan Collins), stepnieces Katherine LaTores and Alicia Bruce (Brian), and grandnieces Marlow and Carys Gregory. Marianne is also survived by her husband’s family, mother Patricia Mayers, brothers Tom (Maura), Tim, and Danny, and their eleven children.
The family is grateful to Marianne’s caregivers, who provided love and support over the past few years. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 17 from 1 – 3 PM at Marianne and Judson’s Annapolis home. All are welcome to celebrate Marianne’s life wearing bright colors and telling stories.
