Loretta Shaffer, a long-time resident of Catonsville, MD and recently living in Severna Park, died of natural causes on the morning of April 26, 2020 at the age of 94. Loretta is survived by her husband of 65 years, Charles Shaffer. May 1st was to be their 66th Anniversary. Her only sister, Gladys Mainhart, passed away in 1988.
Loretta was born in Baltimore on August 23, 1925 to James Donnelly & Emma Dembinsky. She worked many years at Montgomery Ward in Baltimore. She met her husband Charles while ballroom dancing and they were wed on May 1, 1954. Loretta & Charles traveled nationwide as competitive ballroom dancers. After surviving Cancer, Loretta retired and was a long-time nanny for two children. She and Charles loved taking short summer trips to Ocean City and Westminster together. She was known in the family for her signature homemade chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. Loretta also collected figurines of shoes and elephants.
By the end of her life, Loretta was not only a wife, but also a godmother, aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt, and even a great-great-great aunt testifying to her life’s longevity.
Graveside services will be held at Loudon Park Cemetery. Due to Corvid 19 restrictions this service will be by family invitation only.
