was born on January 15, 1942 to Thomas and Elizabeth (nee Johnson) McAndrew.
Kathy was preceded by her son Thomas and her brother Tom. She is survived by John, her husband of 54 years, her children John Cummings of Gaithersburg, MD, Rebecca Thompson and her husband Bob, grandson Daniel of Summit Point, WV and a nephew Thomas McAndrew of New York City.
In her early education she attended St. Johns High School in Pittston, PA. Kathy
furthered her education by earning her RN certification at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Scranton. She earned her BS in Nursing Education at College Misericordia in Dallas, PA by having a work scholarship which required/allowed her to serve as school nurse at the College. Kathy earned a Master’s degree in Sacred Theology from 1980 to 1984 at Saint Mary’s Seminary and University in Roland Park, MD.
She was technically enrolled in St Mary's Seminary's Ecumenical Institute (which held classes only in evenings). Because she did not drive, the Seminary allowed her to attend day classes with the seminarians and was the only non-clerical individual granted that extraordinary privilege . She took the Number 14 bus from the nearby community college to the Seminary twice each week for four years.
In 1986 she became Director of Religious Education at St Mary's Parish in Annapolis. She always considered her role there as her mission rather than her job. She had high regard and affection for the many volunteers with whom she worked in the Sunday School and Adult Education programs. Kathy retired in 2001 when her grandson Daniel was born.
The family will receive visitors at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home 147 Duke of
Gloucester Street Annapolis, MD 21401 on Tuesday February 16 from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Kathy’s name to the Religious Education Program at Saint Mary’s Church 109 Duke of Gloucester Street Annapolis, MD 21401 will be appreciated.
