Donald Ray Hansen passed away on October 15, 2022 at his home in Annapolis, Maryland. Don was born and raised in Oklahoma City on December 24, 1940, the son of Carrol and Mary Josephine (Woods) Hansen. During his youth Don enjoyed spending some of his summers with his close friends, the Marrs family, discovering wildlife and the old mines of Eagle Nest Mountain, New Mexico.
After Don completed a two year construction degree at Oklahoma State University, he entered that business working for others. Years later, he started his own company called D&S Construction, Inc. building commercial businesses in and around Oklahoma City. He served as a staff sergeant with the Oklahoma Army National Guard for six years.
In 2003 he married an old maid school teacher Darlene Harding on the shores of Mayo Beach, Maryland. Near the bay was appropriate because being in a boat on the lakes of Oklahoma or the waters of Maryland was his happy place. He thought his love of the water was because of his Danish heritage.
Don and Darlene spent many of their retirement days on their boats "Southpaw" or "Toy for Two" cruising most of the rivers of Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay. The big highlight of their nineteen years together was traveling to interesting places such as China, the Netherlands, Cuba, Costa Rica and the U.S. National Parks. As photography was Don's hobby he alway had a camera ready to take photos of family, beautiful scenery or a handsome bird.
Don will be greatly missed by his family: Darlene, wife; son, Aaron (Celia), Lompoc, CA; daughter-in-law Yun Murasaki, Hilo, HI; grandsons, Lonnie (Emily), Overland Park, KS, Jacob, Raytown, MO and Aubrey (Jen), Hilo HI: great-grandchildren Eli, Olivia, Beau and Bastain; and many Hansen cousins. Darlene's family will miss Don's storytelling, fun nature and willingness to help at family gatherings. He was predeceased by this parents and beloved son Donald Ray Hansen Jr.
Donations in Don's memory may be made to Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation (alzheimersprevention.org).
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
